Diyarbakır Comparative Literature Days brings an opulent array of content to life through multilingual workshop sessions that include everything from talks on children’s books to councils on eastern literary traditions and the role of gender in written compositions as well. Having been organized for the first time in 2013 by Lîs Publishing and Diyarbakır Arts Center (DSM), this event creates an international atmosphere of culture that provides authors, translators and poets from Diyarbakır, as well as neighboring cities and countries in the region, to gather under one roof. The program begins with a documentary film about the oldest Kurdish newspaper to begin circulation, ‘Riya Taze,’ as well as delving into the story of that publication’s loyal advocate, Armenian author Mirazê Cemal. As part of the program, taking place in cooperation with The Diyarbakır Reading Club, author Ayşegül Devecioğlu will be leading a workshop on novels while writer Melek Özlem Sezer conducts a similar session on stories. Furthermore, an international translation workshop on honorary guest Berken Bereh`s poetry has been organized by KurdîLit, which was established by DSM and Lîs Publishing. In addition to an anticipated talk on Armenian literature, held in cooperation with Aras Publishing, the Armenian author Mıgırdiç Margosyan’s birthday is being celebrated through a series of lectures, artist readings and lively concerts. Through these events, Diyarbakır Comparative Literature Days gives audiences a chance to contemplate the power of what contemporary literature can tell us and what role stories play in our lives.
