Monitor gathers the works of Aslı Çavuşoğlu and Noor Afshan Mirza and Brad Butler couple in the exhibition entitled ‘A Scanner Darkly’. The exhibition can be visited at Kardiçalı Han (Inn) from 30 November to 14 December.
In her work “Murder in Three Acts”, that she produced in the scope of Frieze Arts Fair, Aslı Çavuşoğlu turns the fairground into a crime scene and a forensic laboratory where pieces of art in the crime scene are examined for the sake of solving the murder. In this work, the murder, which is tried to be solved by conventional methods, turns into performance, and the pieces of art into evidence. “Hold Your Ground”, produced jointly by Mirza and Butler in 2012, is shaped based on the question, “how can a smart protest be possible?”. “Hold Your Ground” offers an alternative way of criticism for those who live in places where forbidden words have increased and there is no trace of freedom of thought. Can it be the only escape way to follow an indirect route, depart from the main road and zigzag to reach the same destination in order not to be silenced?
‘A Scanner Darkly’ opens at Kardiçalı Han on November 30th with the participation of Noor Afshan Mirza, and closes with the talk with Aslı Çavuşoğlu and Mustafa Ergül on December 14th.
