An inspiring series of events based in Diyarbakır, the Amed’s Children Festival brings together children from different social and cultural backgrounds under one roof in the name of creativity. The first set of events, held in cooperation with Amed City Theater and Piskilet Çocuk from May 27-31, has children participate in everything from puppetry and photography workshops to creative sessions on miming and drama-based performance. Following these are an exciting set of drama, music, and exhibition seminars organized by the Immigration and Humanitarian Relief Foundation and the Colorful Hopes Association that take place June 1-3. These workshops are held with the goal of realizing the projects the children have worked on throughout the festival. Choral performances are also to be given by Ma Children’s Chorus throughout the festivities. All seminars and workshops are organized under the motto, “Take My Hand,” a theme that permeates the events with the spirit of helping and encouraging children who have been affected by economic struggle and war. Through playing games and using their imaginations, not only do local youth have a chance to better learn to socialize and explore their imaginations, but their families have an opportunity to see sides of their children that they otherwise might not be able to. The festival, which reaches over 1,000 people in the community, is a great chance for children to establish a healthy and vibrant connection to the arts at a young age and in their own language and culture.
