This year, Syrian and Turkish youth collectively create, collaborate and perform together in ‘Towards a Musical Spring’. Building on the success of last year’s project, Home of All Homes, initially founded with Nefes for Art and Culture to empower Syrian children through a variety of arts and cultural activities, now invites both Syrian and Turkish youth to train and rehearse side-by-side. In addition to the percussion and chorus lessons given last year, participants can also learn solfege or to play an Arabic instrument: oud, qanun, or ney. Following six months of diverse musical training, the young Syrian musicians and their Turkish peers, approximately forty in all, take the stage in a culminating performance sharing their newly acquired skills with the community. Exchanging diverse experiences, the young Syrian and Turkish musicians bond and unite through the language of music.
