Cultural Training Program for Post Disaster Recovery – İzmir 2023

The first edition of the ‘Spaces of Culture’s Cultural Training Program for Post-Disaster Recovery was organized in partnership with A Corner in the World with around 20 participants who keep on implementing projects or have project plans in the earthquake region from and around İzmir. Participants gathered at the Originn Coworking to delve into the current discussions about post-earthquake conditions concerning arts and culture.

The three-day program invited professionals from the Spaces of Culture’s partner countries, namely Germany, France, Sweden, and the Netherlands, as well as civil society organizations based in Turkey working in the region to exchange on the topics of psychosocial support for children through arts; raising awareness of collective memory and cultural heritage; and regeneration of cultural institutions, spaces, and actors after migration while presenting the best practices from disaster areas at the workshops.

The workshops and talks delivered by Sevin Seda Güney on Self Healing for Cultural Actors Working in Disaster, Aljosa Rudas from ISSA based in the Netherlands on Trauma Therapy Through Arts, Sabine Choucair from Clowns Without Borders in Sweden on Clownesque Approaches for Communication Towards Children & Youth, Ahmet Akdeniz from Mavi Sanat, Nazey Erdilek from Originn, and Dilek Üstünalan from BoMoVu on Best Practices in Vulnerable Areas, Matthias Einhoff from ZKU Berlin and Ragıp Zık from Give Something Back to Berlin on Approaches for Regeneration of Cultural Institutions, Spaces, and Actors After Crisis.
