Strong Steps

Dance Workshop

Gaziantep, Izmir

18/04 – 28/06/2019

Young women and girls create awareness about what they can achieve by combining their imagination, their physical and mental abilities, and their own stories with movement and dance. The ‘Strong Steps’ dance project offers a platform for creative expression through hip hop dance and culture to girls of different ages in Izmir and Gaziantep. These women of the future have the opportunity to work out their creativity freely by learning from and practicing with successful and experienced female dance masters. Making use of several types of street dance, the instructors introduce creative movement practices, such as space integrity and body and mind connection, which form the basis of dance therapy. With these events, conducted by Education Volunteers Foundation of Turkey (TEGV), ASAM Women Development and Solidarity Centre, Gaziantep University and Ege University, the participants from diverse backgrounds discover their freedom of expression. The aim of Strong Steps is to continue finding ways for young women and girls to express themselves physically, mentally, and creatively.
