The 7th International Zeugma Film Festival brings the thrill of cinema to Gaziantep with noteworthy film productions of the year from Turkey, Europe and Middle East. In cooperation with Kırkayak Kültür, the festival’s focus is the theme ‘Living Together is Possible’ and it endeavours to address the forced immigration and refugee crisis caused by the ongoing wars in the region. So the utmost is care taken to subtitle the films in three languages Turkish, English and Arabic, where possible.
International Zeugma Film Festival’s rich anthology consists of fifty awarded works from Cannes, Venice and Sundance Film Festivals that will be screened in different categories like national, feature length, documentary and short films. The audiences will not only watch the films but also get the chance to listen to and actively participate in the discussions about the films with the films’ creators. The festival will open with Nadine Labaki’s latest film Capharnaüm and as a part of the German Films and Goethe Institute’s ‘Kino2018’ programme, the audiences will also have the chance to view the documentary on Yılmaz Güney’s cinema, The Legend of the Ugly King, directed by Hüseyin Tabak. Also this year the 100th birthday of the legendary director Ingmar Bergman will be celebrated with a selection from his films in a special category called ‘Bergman: 100 Years.’
