‘Ayvalık International Film Festival’ screens local and foreign films for cinema audiences living in and around Ayvalık. Directed by Azize Tan, the festival features a total of 48 films, short films and documentaries in the “Films from Turkey” section under the titles of “International Selection”, “Children of This World”, “First Films”, “Ulrike Ottinger is 80 Years Old”, “In Memory of” and “Cinema for Children”. Directors, actors, producers, representatives of the cinema industry, as well as the press and students make up the audience and participants of the Ayvalık International Film Festival, where panels, interviews, film screenings for children, and drama workshops are also organised. At the festival, the panel titled “Creative Documentary in Turkey: Possibilities of New Narratives” is delivered by Ahmet Gürata with Noah Amir Arjomand, Ceylan Özgün Özçelik, Melik Saraçoğlu, and Volkan Üce, while “Acting as a Craft” panel is moderated by Özen Yula with the participation of Funda Eryiğit, Hare Sürel, Gülçin Kültür Şahin, and Nihal Yalçın. Armağan Çağlayan, Çiğdem Sezgin, and Nurcan Eren take part as speakers in the talk titled “The Story of an Unyielding Woman: Suna”, while the panel titled “The Matter of Incomprehensibility: Not Understanding a Movie” is organised with the participation of Aslı Ildır, Fatih Özgüven, and Tayfun Pirselimoğlu.
By launching an open call under the scope of the Young Cinema program, the festival invites 30 film students from 25 universities and offers them means to improve themselves in the field of cinema. Students from Istanbul, Ankara, Zonguldak, Izmir, Çanakkale, Muğla, Ordu, Antalya, Eskişehir, and Kütahya participate in the activities in Ayvalık and receive training from film professionals during the festival. In 2022, the festival also organises film screenings and workshops in Diyarbakır in cooperation with Mordem Sanat.
