Spaces of Culture

Başka Sinema Film Days is a film festival taking place between the 24th and the 27th of May, 2018 at the Gaziantep Prima Mall Prestige in Gaziantep, Turkey. The independent film distributor that has established a significant following in Turkey, Başka Sinema, in cooperation with the Kırkayak Culture Center, is screening a number of European and Turkish films that revolve around the theme of “living together”, a motif that strikes a close chord with the inhabitants of Gaziantep due to the city’s diverse cultural atmosphere. The festival is implemented with the goal of creating more demand and finding a permanent and viable home for independent and arthouse films in the city. It also aims to offer more options for moviegoers than just the major Turkish and foreign blockbusters that typically dominate screen time in local theaters. In keeping with the selected theme, the festival focuses on establishing a sense of community and interaction for Syrian refugees and Turkish residents, a goal which is being supplemented by the inclusion of Arabic subtitles for each film.
