“Sand Castles”, a collaborative project of Merkezkaç Art Collective and Ulme35 (Germany), comes to life with workshops, exhibitions and talks in Diyarbakır with the support of the Spaces of Culture’s International Co-production Fund.

The project, which aims to examine the phenomenon of migration in philosophical, psychological and social terms based on Gilles Deleuze’s “body without organs” and “displacement” and Heidegger’s concept of “attachment to roots”, opens a space for the collaborative work of artists who have been displaced in Diyarbakır and its neighbouring provinces and who had to migrate after an earthquake or war.

While more than 20 artists share their experiences on how the geography they are nourished by shapes their cultural and artistic productions, participants selected through an open call in the workshop series titled “Volume” have the opportunity to carry out collective works with the artists.
