Under the guidance of creative director Duygu Etikan, ‘Strong Steps’ invites girls and young women from Izmir, Gaziantep, and Diyarbakir to explore their identity and freedom through hip-hop dance. These women of the future reveal their creativity by working with professional and experienced dance instructors. The workshops are led by Turkey’s prominent female hip-hop dancers, namely Aydan Uysal, Duygu Etikan, Gülay Tezcan, Selen G. Sanders, and Hürrem Çıkıkçıoğlu. ‘Strong Steps’ is hosting workshops for its participants, including creative street dance camps, seminars, body and awareness practices, and provides a safe space for women to open up and express themselves through hip-hop dance.
Organized in collaboration with Educational Volunteers Foundation of Turkey (TEGV), Foundation for the Support of Women’s Work (KEDV), Association of Colorful Hopes, Gaziantep University, and Ege University, ‘Strong Steps’ is uncovering new freedom of expression through movement.
