‘Urban Ecology Tours’ are looking at the cultural heritage of Izmir and Çanakkale through their ecology and flora. The project is part of the program of the 7th Çanakkale Biennial entitled ‘Constellation’, encouraging interactions and collaborations during its time frame of six months.
The project, which is realized by the photographer Tarık Gök in partnership with ‘CABININ (Çanakkale Biennial Initiative)’, focuses on the monumental trees and flora of these two maritime trade cities, reflecting on their historical significance, and their ecological memory that continues to exist within the urban fabric. The results are shared as a rich experience-oriented online assembly of walking trails, audio narratives, and videos for users from Izmir and Çanakkale, and beyond. ‘Urban Ecology Tours’, developed with the consultancy of experts and researchers in urban history, ecology, architecture, and design from Izmir and Çanakkale, and designed with the audio-visual recordings of Tarik Gök, are available online in December 2020.
