Izmir’s contemporary art scene is putting on a new look this September. The Visibility in Art Festival – Izmir, taking place in collaboration with Açık Stüdyo (Open Studio), focuses on the theme of ‘perspective,’ while emphasizing the inter-disciplinary potential of contemporary performance art. The festival draws attention to the shared process of creation that goes into performance work and kicks off with a talk by dance artist and academician Tuğçe Tuna regarding her project, ‘Contemporary Dance in Turkey.’ Audiences also have the chance to watch Serenay Oğuz’s dance, ‘Fill in the Gaps,’ after which a short interview will be held with the artist.

In addition, solo performances ‘You’re Not a Fish After All’ from Mihran Tomasyan and the Bare Feet Theater Group and ‘One for the Road’ from Ilyas Odman, both of whom are working in the contemporary dance and performance fields are on offer as part of the festival. Guest artists from Bulgaria, including Ivo Ivanov and video artist Valko Chobanov, choreographer, dance artist and instructor Gizem Aksu, and musician Sarp Keskiner, come together for a ten-day creative journey.

All of these talented artists will be sharing displays of performative work which are to be collectively developed in line with inter-disciplinary and perhaps even trans-disciplinary creation processes with audiences at the festival. Celebrating what is sure to be a productive and compelling festival, the festivities and performances are brought to a close with a DJ set by Ivo Ivanov.
