The actor Mohammad Eyad Babtij organizes a long-term community video workshop series under the title ‘Searching Traces’ in cooperation with the Istanbul-based cultural organization Diyalog Dernegi. Within the workshop, immigrant and local participants from Gaziantep are trained to use smartphones and video software programs to create short films about mobility/immobility, living conditions, and aspirations regarding community life in one single shot. The project focuses on newcomers.
The workshop, which is held in Turkish, Arabic, and English, also ensures the gender parity of participants to overcome gender-based stereotypes in different communities and promote commonality. The workshop program is also featured as part of the events organized by ‘Diyalog Derneği’ in the frame of the ‘Mahalla Festival 2020’ to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic. The participants benefit from the multi-media experiences, the knowledge of filmmaking, online publishing, and content management by the three instructors Mohammad Eyad Babtji, Sabine Küper-Büsch, and Thomas Büsch, who are innovative cross-media authors experienced in filmmaking and web-content management.
