“FACTORY: Memory of Space, Space of Memory” presents a transdisciplinary approach to art and culture by examining the concepts of social memory, industrial heritage, and labor rights in the context of urban sociology, economy and culture through Sümerbank Bergama Textile Factory in Bergama as the identity of this landmark space was transformed from rural to urban during the modernisation process.
The project supports production by young people, academics, civil society activists, and actors working in visual arts, culture, and design fields. The participatory path of the project expands itself through memory walks, performances, panels, a live book where the former workers of the factory get together with audiences to share memories of the space, a series of talks prepared for design workshops with the participation of Rastminus Design Collective and the contribution of Gazhane Environmental Volunteers, an exhibition on space and memory, a website containing archives and oral history records with the future projections on industrial heritage sites from the university youth. A 160-page research book on the project is available along with the exhibition at the Odeon Pergamon Culture and Art Space.
